Dunmahon Castle, County Cork in August 1986. Described at the time as: on a mound. Water in fosse. Barrel vaulted ground floor, first floor has barrel vault over it with attic space. Ground floor is excavated into the rock in places. 2 loops and 2 aumbries on the ground floor, which is entered by a west door. Very small tower house. Garderobe shute on east side in SW corner, sheer drop down. 2nd entrance over ground floor entrance ( as seen elsewhere in west Cork). Mural stairs in south wall leads to garderobe and attic floor. Nice and dry inside, surrounded by oaks and ash in a very wild setting. A narrow tower.
