Foulksrath Castle, County Kilkenny, in April 1988. Photograph of Paul Kerrigan, author of “Castles and Fortifications in Ireland, 1485-1945” taken in May 1992, on a visit with the Castles Studies Group. He is seen admiring a cruciform stirrup shaped loop in the remainder of the bawn wall. At the time it was a rather spooky youth hostel, now it is in excellent private ownership.
