Newtown Castle, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. A cylindrical tower house on a rectangular base in March 1986. My notes at the time state: Dome vault over ground floor and same over second floor. 5 floors in all. In good condition, no roof. No timber floors survive. Good example of wicker work shuttering on ground floor ceiling. Interesting loops. Shot holes.
